Queen Jigzie hosted the three week Appleton Trail promotion for Campari in Melbourne. This was a fabulous event that took place over three weeks in Melbourne at various venues round in the city and Fitzroy. Patrons were treated to tasting of variety of Jamaican Appleton Rum, samples of popular Jamaican cuisine and top Jamaican DJ’s living Melbourne playing some killer Jamaican Ska Reggae Rocksteady and Dancehall. I enjoyed my role of hosting meeting and dancing with a wonderful mixture people from various parts of the globe as well working with the Campari staff from Melbourne and Sydney.

Queen Jigzie attended the Maroondah Festival as the MC for the cultural community stage. It was a beautiful warm day and everyone enjoyed the diversity of the many cultures presenting their dance music songs and stories. This was my first visit to the Maroondah festival. It was a fabulous festival providing entertainment for all age groups. I will definitely be attending this festival again. Thanks to the Maroondah City Council for inviting me to participate.

Queen Jigzie attended the Symposium presented by Carib Vic Association: Theme of the Symposium was The Greater Caribbean past present future history politics economics culture society and migration. The day included talks and discussions with Caribbean migrants who were involved in “Adding Pimento” the book on Caribbean migration in Victoria. This symposium was informative and entertaining. There were numerous migrating stories including a wonderful presentation on Haiti from a Haitian now living in Melbourne. I enjoyed sharing my story of migration as well as listening to the other stories and presentations.
Queen Jigzie together with songwriter percussionist and performing artist King Ru presented “Sweet Jamaica” dance workshop and performance to the Scorsby Secondary College. Students participated willingly in workshops. Students were asked to participate in some of the dances during the performance many of them showing of the style and motion dancing to King Ru Reggae grooves.

Presentation performance of Sweet Jamaica sharing music song dance games and storytelling at the Kindergarten of Ballarat Federation University. The children were delightful. They were keen to learn participating in the songs rhythm games as well as dancing to some classic Reggae tunes. It was an enjoyable day for all involved.

Queen Jigzie King Ru spent two days at Mount Waveley Secondary College teaching and dance song and music workshops to the year 8 and 9. The sessions culminated each day with Queen Jigzie and King Ru involving some students in an impromptu performance of traditional and contemporary Jamaican music song and dance that they were taught during the workshop sessions.

Queen Jigzie returned to Mount Waverley Secondary College for the 5th year to present two days of Jamaican Dance workshops to the year eight students. Accompanied by Percussionist King Ru Queen Jigzie had students moving rocking grooving to the sweet classic riddims of Mento and Ska skanking along to a Reggae beat or whining to a fresh Dancehall groove.
